		The Valley If you are looking for a stunning weekend destination, only a little more than half as far as Margaret River, do not look any further : The Ferguson Valley is situated approx. 2 hours South of Perth and 20 minutes South East of the city of Bunbury. Numerous self-contained units, bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels and caravan parks are available in the valley or in the region. The Ferguson Valley, explored by and named after Dr Ferguson in 1832, is part of the Geographe wine region which is becoming one of Australia’s new destinations for tasting good wines. The Ferguson Valley is the jewel of the region, with not only spectacular scenery but also first class wines. The local climate is essentially Mediterranean, but cooled and humidified by the Indian Ocean. It has a number of climatic similarities to the Rhone Valley in France. The soil is heavier and derived from the gneissic country rock in the valleys with loam over clay and granite. Rainfall is up to 1000 mm per year. The Ferguson Valley, overlooking Carlaminda Wines, towards the coast This is one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) areas in the South West of Western Australia. Imagine rolling hills with grazing cattle, little streams meandering through magnificent native bush and forests, spectacular views of the Indian Ocean ranging from Cape Naturaliste to Bunbury. This is a great place for bush walking, viewing wildflowers in spring, discovering the local specialties and tasting wine. Many wineries are open on weekends or by appointment.
